Got FOMO?
I'm not jealous, YOU'RE jealous
Welcome to The Segment, a newsletter for customer-facing baddies who wanna talk shop and dish dirt about the latest in tech news. Was this email forwarded to you? Don't be shy, subscribe here.
TL;DR
The biggest events in tech are happening this month and some of us are living vicariously through social media posts about them.
Meta used your embarrassing status updates to train its AI models. I’m so sorry.
Whether you loved it or hated it, this week’s presidential debate delivered on the nonsense and memes.
Let's talk shop 🔧
This is fine 🙂
Do you have FOMO, too?
Conference season is officially in full swing. This week my LinkedIn feed was filled with posts about SaaStr in San Francisco and Drive by Exit Five in Burlington, VT.
And I’m definitely not jealous of the people who got to attend. Nope, not even a little bit.
Next week you should expect to see more dispatches from these two huge in-person events:
Dreamforce from Sept. 17-19th (did you know that Dr. Jane Gooddall will be there?! 🐒)
INBOUND from Sept. 18-20th (you probably already heard Ryan Reynolds and Serena Williams are headlining 🤩)
The good news is even if you can’t make it in person, both are making the sessions available online. Silver linings, baby!
Watch live-streamed INBOUND sessions here or tune into Dreamforce live here. Or run both simultaneously if you’re feeling feisty 😎
Me livestreaming both events between meetings
🖥️ What else is happening in tech?
Bestie, I’m gonna hold your hand while I say this…Meta just admitted that all text and photos publicly shared by adult Facebook & Instagram users since 2007 were used to train its AI models. So that dumb thing you shared on Facebook in 10th grade? It’s forever forever.
The startup streaming platform Tune.FM wants to disrupt market leaders Spotify and Apple Music using crypto and web3. (Unrelated, can someone explain crypto and web3? Asking for a friend…)
One small step for billionaires, one giant leap for commercial space travel. Four civilians just completed a spacewalk as part of a SpaceX mission.

Let’s dish 🤭
I’m positively bedeviled with concepts of plans!
Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably seen a clip or two from the most recent US presidential debate. Whew, this one was a doozy for memes.

Anyway, you better buckle up, bucko! The US election is right around the corner and the internet isn’t leaving any meme stone unturned.
🫖 What's the tea?
On that note: A federal judge has ruled that it’s now legal to bet on election results. So…there’s that.
If you’re tired of the corporate grind, I have an exciting new business venture to propose. Who wants to go in on a diamond-making machine with me?
